Rules and Regulations
These are the Rules and Regulations that govern the
28th Annual Roberta Savler Piano Contest. For any
discrepancies between the Rules and Regulations as
given in the brochure and
those that are published here on this page, the Rules
and Regulations as given in the brochure take precedence.

CONTEST VENUE
Roosevelt
University, 430 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago
APPLICATION DEADLINE
Postmarked no later than March 1, 2008
ELIGIBILITY
Students entering the competition may be in any grade
level through High School Senior. Students who
previously placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in Levels A, B, or
C, or 1st in Level D are not eligible to compete again
in the same level; however, students who previously
placed 2nd or 3rd in Level D may re-enter at the same
level. Honorable Mention winners are not required to
advance to the next level. A first place winner of
other 2006 and 2007 MTNA piano contests is not
eligible to compete.
ENROLLMENT
Teachers may enroll no more than 10 students in this
event, but there are no restrictions regarding level
enrollment. Each student may enter only one level,
and must be enrolled on the official application form,
showing ALL required information. Please specify on
the application any scheduling requests, as times will
NOT be reassigned after the schedule is complete.
Also, please indicate siblings whose times need to be
coordinated. Scheduling requests cannot be guaranteed
but will be considered carefully.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION AND FEES
The entry fee for students of a CAMTA member is $22.00
per student for all levels. Teachers who are
not members of CAMTA must pay a $10.00 per
student application fee in addition to the $22.00
entry fee. ENTRY FEES ARE NOT REFUNDABLE. The
completed contest application form and entry fees
should be mailed to Junichi S. Sato, 707 W.
Waveland Ave., Apt. 311, Chicago, IL 60613-4112.
Please make checks payable to CAMTA. The
postmark deadline is March 1, 2008. No late entries
will be accepted.
Schedules will be mailed to teachers towards the end
of March. If your schedule has not been received by
March 29, 2008, please call Junichi Sato
(773-327-0057).
MONITORING
ALL PARTICIPATING TEACHERS are expected to help with
the contest by monitoring a room for two hours.
Please indicate the time frame you wish to monitor on
the application form. Teachers are required to stay
at the door during the entire monitoring assignment.
If it is impossible for you to physically be present
on the contest date, then you must include an
additional $5.00 fee per student to pay for
monitors in your place. Due to difficulties in past
years, parents and students are not allowed to
monitor. In addition, teachers are not allowed to
monitor a room their students are assigned to. Please
note that your monitoring preference does not affect
student scheduling. You must request scheduling
preferences separately as described under
"Enrollment" above.
REPERTOIRE
Teachers should enroll students in the appropriate
level, selecting ONE PIECE from the elective list to
be performed IN ADDITION TO THE REQUIRED PIECE.
Please be certain your students prepare the correct
pieces, since an incorrect piece will result in
disqualification. Editions mentioned in the
repertoire list are for reference only; there are no
specific edition requirements. No repeats are to be
taken except for Da Capo and Dal Segno.
All pieces must be memorized.
CONTEST PROCEDURES
Students MUST bring a clean, published copy of the
music to the competition with measures numbered.
Failure to do so will result in disqualification. In
order to comply with copyright laws, NO PHOTOCOPIES OR
OTHER SIMILARLY REPRODUCED COPIES WILL BE ALLOWED.
Persons arriving later than their assigned playing
time will NOT be allowed to compete. Judges and
contestants are the only people permitted in the
audition rooms. Please be advised that practice rooms
are NOT available; the practice rooms at Roosevelt
University are for Roosevelt students, and CAMTA
students are not allowed to use these rooms.
Any infraction of these Rules and Regulations will
result in disqualification. We strongly advise you to
review these Rules and Regulations with your
participating students prior to the contest date.
AWARDS AND HONORS RECITAL
All students will receive ribbons for participation on
the day of the contest. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place
trophies will be awarded in each level if scores
warrant such awards. Ties and Honorable Mentions can
be given at the judges' discretion. Trophies and
Honorable Mention certificates are distributed at the
Honors Recital. If the number of entries in a
division becomes excessively large, contestants may be
split into separate groups with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
Place winners in each group. Conversely, if a level
has a small number of participants, fewer prizes may
be awarded. At least three contestants are necessary
for a contest in any division. THE DECISION OF THE
JUDGES IS FINAL.
Results of the contest and judges' comment sheets will
be mailed to the teacher. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place
winners from each level will be given the opportunity
to perform in the Honors Recital. The winning
students' teachers will be notified the evening of the
contest and told which piece should be performed on
the recital. Teachers of winning students should
notify the contest chairs if their students will NOT
be performing in the Honors Recital. Any awards not
picked up at the Honors Recital can be shipped to the
teacher at the teacher's expense.
Details regarding the date and time of the Honors
Recital will be in the January newsletter and will
also be included in the scheduling information.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Many thanks to Paulo Carvalho, Linda Barker, and
Regina Syrkin for their invaluable assistance in
putting the repertoire list together. The 2008
